Hello

Hello,
Call me Hashmi.

I design for services &
user experiences.

I'm a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University.
I have a Bachelors of Science in Information Systems,
a focus on Social & Global Systems, and a minor in Ethics.

 I've studied under Philosophers, Typographers,
Entrepreneurs, Designers, Social Scientists  and
Technologists. My educational background allows me to
bring an interdisciplinary approach to my design practice,
and a variety of valuable perspectives to any given project.

Design for Service

The HBKU Student Center is located at the center of 6 university campuses in Doha, Qatar.
This student union building was struggling to serve its purpose due to a lack of students using the facilities available.
I took this project because I wanted students to have an enriched college experience.

Process

The project had 3 phases: Research, Comprehension,
and Ideation. The research phase consisted of user interviews and literature review on the history of college unions. In the comprehension phase I narrowed down areas for ideation through concept maps and identifying key stakeholders. The Ideation phase involved co-creation with the stakeholders to help them envision their perfect idea of the building. The five major principles of service design (useful, usable, efficient, effective & desirable) were considered during prototyping.

Design for Web

The Interactive News is an online archive of interactive articles published by media organizations.
News organizations and ways of information delivery are rapidly evolving, and the website serves as a catalog for this evolution. It also serves as a resource for designers, journalists and researchers. This is a project of Carnegie Mellon headed by faculty member, Alex Cheek.

Process

The project had 3 phases: Design, Development,
and Population. The design phase consisted of making working prototypes of the website using Webflow. In the development phase I implemented search and sort capabilities. The population phase involved using a CMS and adding content according to the criteria developed during the design phase.

Design for User Experience

Liberum, meaning free, was conceived as a movement. Every year, upper-classmen move out of the dorms and new students move in. The upper-classmen have stuff to give away, the new students are in need of stuff. For our Junior Capstone Project, my team members and I decided to create an app that facilitates the need of upper-classmen to give away their stuff and the need of new students to get that stuff.

Process

The project had 2 phases: Design and Development. The design phase consisted of brainstorming, wire-framing,  and branding. Micro-interactions were included, and we made sure that our app abided by the Material Design guidelines.
In the development phase I was  responsible of keeping the team on schedule and documenting the process. The services and tools used included AWS, MySQL, and PhoneGap.
